Basic rules

21. The player strikes the shuttle service from his own court diagonally to the opponent.

22. As soon as the shuttle hits the ground, the game is stopped. Depending on whether the shuttle is in/on the lines (in) or outside the lines (out) is being assessed how the game continues. If the shuttle is on the ground by a failure of the service player, the service will be transferred to the other player and give that player a point. If the fault is made by the opponent, the service player remains a point, and keeps the service.

23. The service player has one change for his service. When he makes a fault, the service goes to the other player.

24. A similar number is served from the right service court, in an odd number from the left.

25. If the referee is not sure whether he made the right decision, he can give let. A let means that played point should be replayed.

26. Teams must consist of one male and one female player, forming a mixed doubles team. Both players should meet the basic eligibility requirements of the event. This rule ensures that all teams are mixed-gender and are treated equally in the competition.

27. Serving in doubles: In doubles, the player serving must serve diagonally to the opponent’s service box (right to right or left to left). The first server in the game will be decided by a coin toss. After that, the serving order alternates between the players in each team. Service order: Players from the same team alternate serving within the game. The first player on the team serves first, then their partner serves next, and so on. When one team wins the serve, the partner who has served first will serve again, but they must switch sides with their teammate before serving.

28. Receiving in doubles: The receiving team must decide which player will receive the serve from their opponent’s side. The receiver must always serve from the correct diagonal side. The partner of the receiver is not allowed to interfere with the service reception, and each player must alternate hitting the shuttlecock.

29. Alternating hits: In doubles, after the service, players from each team must alternate hitting the shuttlecock. This means no player can hit the shuttlecock twice consecutively unless it’s a fault or a missed shot by the other team.

30. Changing sides in doubles: Teams change sides at the end of each set, as well as when the total score reaches half the total number of points for the final set, in order to ensure fairness in the competition.

31. Faults in doubles: A fault will be called if a player fails to serve correctly (e.g., serving to the wrong court or not serving diagonally). If the shuttlecock lands outside the boundaries or is touched by a player more than once, it results in a fault.

32. Scoring in doubles: If a team loses a point, the serve will go to the opposing team, but the player who served first will continue serving, alternating turns between teammates.
